4 firms given 48 hours to pay taxes

FOUR business establishments in the north district of Cebu City have been issued a 48-hour notice to pay their correct amount of taxes.

Lilivic Gatdula, Cebu City North revenue district officer of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), said the four establishments will be padlocked under the Oplan Kandado Program if they fail to heed the notice.

Based on the tax mapping and surveillance by the agency’s assessment group, the four establishments were found to have been under-declaring their incomes since last year.

Gatdula said the agency had issued three notices to the establishments regarding their under-declaration. Last week, all four establishments were given 48 hours.

Failure to comply will result in the issuance of the five-day value-added tax (VAT) Compliance Notice (VCN).

Continued non-compliance will result in the establishment’s temporary closure until dues are paid, Gatdula said.

Gatdula said BIR will continue its crackdown against taxpayers who will be found not paying their correct dues as well as against unregistered businesses to be able to cope with the target this year.

BIR offices in Cebu and Bohol were given a target of P36.36 billion this year, about 43 percent more than its collection goal last year.
