CHARGES were filed yesterday against the police officer who was caught sniffing drugs in Barangay Poblacion, Pinamungajan town.

PO1 Ian Patrick Carvellida, a Pinamungajan police investigator, was arrested Friday night after he was caught sniffing shabu inside a drug den owned by a certain Allan Salazar.

Police said Carvellida, who was wearing civilian clothes, was off-duty at the time. He was shot in the right leg after he drew his service firearm.
Carvellida is now recuperating in a hospital.

He is facing multiple charges before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, including violation of Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban for bringing firearm without proper uniform, protecting a drug den, illegal possession of drugs and illegal drug use.

SPO1 Reynaldo Solante, leader of the raiding team from the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), said Carvellida will be transferred to a detention cell when he is discharged from Chong Hua Hospital.

Salazar, the subject of the raid last Friday night, has already been charged for violating Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, deputy regional director of the Police Regional Office, said he already asked the high ranking officials of CPPO to help identify the two other police officers who also visited the drug den.
