THE Japanese Association in Cebu is organizing a Japanese Lantern Festival this coming August to promote their culture and allow Cebuanos to experience Japanese culture.

The first such Japanese Festival was held in 2014.

The association, together with Japanese Consul Masaki Hirasawa met with Gov. Hilario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale last Tuesday to ask for assistance in conducting this year’s Bon Odori Festival or Japanese Lantern Festival.

Kinue Sakurai, president of the association, told reporters that the event also marks the 60th year of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Japan.

“We’d like to promote (Japanese Lantern Festival) to the Cebuanos for them to feel the Japanese culture,” she said.

The event will be held at the Sugbu grounds in South Road Properties (SRP).

Sakurai said the festival will feature booths that will sell food and handmade Japanese products. The festival will run from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. or 10 p.m.

The Japanese embassy and the Department of Tourism (DOT) are supporting the activity, Sakurai added.
