Former SHS-AdC cager expected to shine for UST

FOLLOWING a quiet debut in Season 78 of the UAAP, basketball fans can expect a more confident Zachary Huang when he comes to Cebu along with the rest of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers to compete in the San Jose Recoletos Cup on July 14 at the University of San Jose-Recoletos gym in Basak.

A prized recruit from the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), the lefty big man barely got off the bench under Head Coach Bong dela Cruz. In all, Huang played in just six games and totaled six rebounds with one shot attempt.

With UST now employing a more free-flowing offense under new Head Coach Boy Sablan, Huang is expected to fill in some huge shoes with veteran stars Kevin Ferrer, Ed Daquioag and Karim Abdul no longer with the team.

“Coach Boy’s (Sablan) system is run and gun. As of now he hasn’t told me what my role is yet,” shared Huang in a brief talk with Cebu Daily News on Thursday morning. Be it as it may, Huang is ready to contribute to the team now with a full year under his belt.

At the moment though, Huang has set his eyes on his return to Cebu later this month. UST will open their campaign with a match against the USJ-R Jaguars on July 14.

“Coming back to Cebu is awesome. I’m going to get to play against some of my teammates and seeing my family back home is a wonderful opportunity,” quipped Huang.
