Tri-Team C’ships set Feb. 8 in Dalaguete

THE annual Tri-Team Championships Series 2014 kicks off its first leg on Feb. 8 in the southern town of Dalaguete.
Around P80,000 in cash prizes await winners of this race, which was launched Thursday at the Fuente Pension House headed by officials from Sugbo Triathlon and race director Benjoe Jimenez.
Also present were Anton Regis of Sugbu Triathlon, Jess Arriola, Ric Dizon, Almar Villahermosa (Sportscom Staff), Joseph Randy Cisneros (Sportscom Director) and Antonio Cortes, Jr. (Head Road & Safety Unit).
Triathletes from Cebu and its neighboring regions are expected to join the race, which will feature a 40-kilometer bike, 10k run and 1.5k swim course.
According to Jimenez, they are expecting Cebu Parklane Tri Team to defend its overall title with tough competition coming from Fish18.
Aside from the standard division, a sprint division, which offers half the distance of the standard, will also be included for newbie triathletes. There will also be a tri-kids division.
The winning teams and triathletes will earn points that will be accumulated until the end of the series later this year. The team and individual with the highest points will be declared overall champions.
The awards in every leg for the top 3 male and the top 3 female competitors are P5,000 and medals for the champions, P3,000 and medals for the second placers and P2,000 plus medals for the 3rd placers.
The overall champion team in the series will pocket a whopping P30,000 cash and a trophy. Registration can be done online at www.sugbutriathlon.com with a fee of P2,000 per triathlete.
