REP. Raul Del Mar of Cebu City’s north district wrote Interior and Local Governments Secretary Ismael Sueño asking him to restore Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s authority over the police.

In a letter dated August 31, Del Mar said the regional National Police Commission (Napolcom) had no basis in taking away Osmeña’s deputization saying the mayor didn’t withdraw all support to the city’s police.

He attached a copy of House Resolution No. 253 wherein they requested the committee on local government to investigate Napolcom’s withdrawal of Osmeña’s deputization as their representative in the city.

Del Mar delivered a privilege speech in Congress on the issue.

Aside from asking Sueño to reconsider Napolcom’s resolution withdrawing Osmeña’s deputization, Del Mar is also requesting the secretary to recommend to President Rodrigo Duterte to restore the deputization.

It was August 10 when the Napolcom implemented the resolution withdrawing Osmeña’s deputization which was received by then acting mayor Edgardo Labella.

In his earlier privilege speech, Del Mar said it was only the cash reward system for the police which the mayor withdrew following the relief of two top police officials in the city and region then.
