Talisay to hold 2 big events in January
THE Talisay City government is planning to hold two important events next year – the longest Inasal festival and a return to the Sinulog grand parade.
Councilor Doroteo Emit, chairman of the Committee on Tourism, said the Inasal festival is expected to also draw Sinulog tourists into their city.
The Talisay City government was supposed to have their annual Inasal Festival last month as one of the highlights of the city’s fiesta celebration but they opted to postpone it in time for the city’s 16th Charter Day celebration on Jan. 12, three days before the Sinulog Grand Parade.
“Ug naa tay mga kalihokan nga parehas aning Inasal festival, maenganyo gyud ang mga turista nga moanhi sa ato kay taas kaayo ni siya (If we have an activity such as this Inasal festival, tourists would be enticed to come to our city because this is the ‘longest’),” Emit said in an interview with dyAB.
To make the celebration more interesting, Emit said they would aim for the city’s inclusion in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest and the most number of roasted pigs (inasal) on display.
Emit said he is now coordinating with the Talisay City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Lea Noveras for their Sinulog comeback on January 15.
He said they are tapping the Talisay Central National High School as the city’s delegation in the grand parade.
Emit said Talisay opted to skip the 2016 Sinulog, but did not elaborate why.
He said he will soon be meeting with the city councilors to discuss the need to allocate funds for the two events.
