CEBU’S promising taekwondo jins will once again represent the country in the upcoming 2017 Asian Junior Championships slated April 19 to 21 in Atyrau, Kazakhstan.

University of Cebu’s (UC) Dineson Cañeda and University of San Carlos’ (USC) Lee Robiegayle Navales and Aidane Laxa will be among the 16-athlete Philippine delegation in the prestigious tournament that will be participated by 39 other countries, including powerhouses Korea, Iran, China, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Thailand.

Cañeda will don the Meralco/MVP Sports Foundation colors in the sparring category while Laxa and Navales will banner the PLDT Ultera flag in the poomsae category.

Cañeda will compete in the 48-kilogram category. He snagged a gold in the same tournament in 2015 together with fellow Cebuano Nica Garces.

Navales and Laxa, on the other hand, will compete in the women’s division of the forms competition.

Five officials will be accompanying the team. They are delegation head Tem Igor Mella, kyurogi coaches Alvin Taraya and Napoleon Dagdagan Jr., poomsae coach Rani Ann Ortega and poomsae trainer Jeordan Dominguez.
