Visiting woodpushers from Davao City took off to a good start in the 2017 National Age-Group Chess Championships (NAGCC) Grand Finals, which kicked off yesterday at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
John Marvin Miciano, David Belisario, Irish Ingayo and Samantha Umayan each scored two points after two rounds to lead in the under-20, under-12 boys, under-14 girls and under-12 girls, respectively.
Joining Miciano at the top spot in the under-20 division were La Union’s Kenneth Flores and ARMM’s Sarri Subahani, who also had two points each.
Belisario along with Metro Manila’s Michael Concio and Reign Joshua Vinuya are tied at the number one spot in the boys under-12 division. Cebuano players Jerish John Velarde and John Lester Belano trailed Belisario with one point each.
Yngayo shared the lead with Misamis Oriental’s Me Ann Joy Baclayon in the under-14 girls division while Cebu’s Mary Margarett, Regine Catherine Quinanola and Alphecca Gonzales were at second place with one point each.
Umayan, on the other hand, shared the lead with Iloilo City’s Queen Rose Pamplona in the under-12 girls division. Cebu’s Kristina Concepcion Belano along with Batangas’ Antonella Berthe Racasa were at the second place both with one point.
In the under-18 boys division, Metro Manila’s Jayson Danday, Melito Ocsan Jr. and Darry Bernardo shared the lead by scoring two points each while Bicol’s Christian Mark Daluz, Cagayan De Oro’s Adrian Othniel Patricio Yulo forged a three-way tie at the top in the under-16 boys division with two points apiece. Cebu’s Duane Borgonia and Jerick Marino of Laguna were tied at second spot with one point each.
In the under-14 division, Cavite’s Daniel Quizon, Las Piñas’ Justine Diego Mordido and Koronadal City’s Chrisus Joshua Sarchez both had two points to lead the category while Cebu’s Jave Mareck Peteros had one point for second spot.
Cebu’s Keith Claire Carlisle Morala, Metro Manila’s Venice Vicente and Mira Mirano of Aklan were leading the 20-under women’s division with two points each. Agusan Del Sur’s Women’s FIDE Master (WFM) Allanney Jia Doroy and Makati’s Rizalyn Tejada took the number one spot in the girls-under 18 division with two points apiece.
Cebu’s Vic Glysen Derotas and Glybel Jane Quinanola scored one point apiece to occupy the second spot in the 16-under girls. Kylen Joy Mordido of Metro Manila and Queenie Mae Samarita took the top spot with two points each.
