FORTY members of Cebu’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community will be assigned to run a hydration station in the upcoming 2018 Cebu Marathon slated on Sunday, January 14.

“The station will be manned by the LGBTs and they are very resourceful, they are very colorful, and they are very entertaining,” said Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera, one of the organizers of the annual event.

“This is also our way of making the LGBT part of the main spectrum not just in the running community and sports but society as well,” Garganera added.

The LGBT members will be tasked to entertain exhausted runners and energize them in their 35th kilometer to help them finish the last seven kilometers completing the 42-kilometer marathon.

Dubbed as the “Panday Hydration Station”, the place which will be situated at the back of the Cebu Technological University (CTU) along MJ Cuenco Avenue will have drums, drum beaters, a massage area and performances.

“Watch out for the Panday station, the first LGBT hydration station in the history of the Cebu Marathon,” said Garganera.

Meanwhile, due to Friday’s fire which hit Gaisano Metro Ayala, the distribution of the race kits will now be done at Vibo Place along Escario Street, right across Capitol Parish Church.

The marathon will start at 3 o’clock in the morning while the half marathon will start at 4 a.m.

According to Garganera, this year’s marathon is expected to draw around 5,000 runners from 36 countries around the globe.
