San Francisco coach thinks team can be better

ALTHOUGH San Francisco crushed the Consolacion Sarok Weavers in the Game 1 of the Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Basketball Tournament North Division Finals last Sunday, head coach Christian Liaz does not feel very confident of his team.

“We were satisfied because we won,” Liaz said. “But there are still lapses, especially on our defense and rebounds.”

San Francisco took a 1-0 lead in the short best-of-three series with an 84-68 rout of defending North Division champion Consolacion last Sunday at the San Francisco Municipal Gym in Camotes Island.

Game 2 will be on Wendesday at Consolacion’s home court at the Consolacion Municipal Gym.

Liaz knows the Sarok Weavers will be going all out with their backs against the wall.

“We will not take any chances. The Consolacion players are tall so that will be the part that we will be working on [in preparation for Game 2],” Liaz said.

The team will once again pin its hopes on Kenny Rogers Rocacurva, who had a double-double performance of 33 points and 14 rebounds.

Consolacion knows that if it wants to win, it should somehow find a way to limit the offense of Rocacurva.

Consolacion coach Delfin Pepito planned to do that in Game 1 but his team failed to accomplish that mission. Still, Pepito believes his team will find a way to win.

“Our coaching staff will have a meeting on how to take care of their ace player,” Pepito said. “Our players also hopes that the homecourt advantage would make a huge effect as it did during the match in San Francisco.”
