Seawater flooded the port in Olango Island on Sunday afternoon as a result of the huge waves and strong winds affecting the islet located off mainland Mactan Island.

A video which Pajo Barangay Captain Ahong Chan shared on Facebook showed seawater being washed into the port area by huge waves.

More water covered the port area as seawater level also increased between 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Hinumdomi ang katawhan nagbayad og ticket kaninyo matag sulod sa maong pantalan,” Chan said on FB.

Chan said that the flooding caused inconvenience on travelers who have to walk on flood waters to get to their waiting pump boats.

He said that the port needs to be elevated to prevent flooding during high tide and when there are huge waves in the area that is often visited by tourists who wants to enjoy the beach or go migratory bird watching at the island’s bird sanctuary .
