What happens if a motorist driving along the national road in southern Cebu  from Naga to Carcar doesn’t notice these trees sticking out of the road?

They aren’t visible at night. No warning signs are in place.

They present “extreme road hazards,” said Marc Canton, lead convenor of the Movement for a Livable Cebu, who wrote the DPWH 7 and DENR 7 last Oct. 27 urging them to have five trees removed immediately to avoid an accident.

Road concreting was finished by the private contractor with these five trees left standing in the middle or on the side of the national highway.

“These are not heritage trees,” Canton clarified.

Four trees are encroaching in completed roads, while a fifth is halfway on the road.

“Vehicles could crash into them at anytime, and much more so if the driver is distracted.”

The letter dated Oct. 27, 2014 was sent to DPWH 7 Regional Director Ador Canlas and DENR 7 Regional Executive Director Isabelo Montejo.
