Fewer problems seen for Cebu bus terminal on Christmas, New Year

The Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) management said it’s confident that the influx of passengers during Christmas and New Year won’t be as chaotic as All Saints Day and All Souls Day last November.

CSBT operations manager Eddie Dusaban said they will retain the set-up they used back when thousands of passengers suddenly flocked to the terminal on All Souls’ and All Saints’ Days.

“Traveling during the Christmas season isn’t like traveling last November. We can afford not to prepare this early. As a matter of fact, we barely prepared anything at all,” he said over the phone.

Dusaban said they will only start setting up railings and tents on Monday, December 22.

Standby

The railings, just like in November, are meant to control the flow of passengers to the terminal.

Dusaban said the Cebu provincial government will provide seven tents to be set up at the back of the terminal, where people can stand under in case of harsh weather conditions.

By then, two security guards will monitor each entrance, while five police officers and six members of the Civil Security Unit (CSU) will be deployed.

Dusaban said they’re confident that there will be no shortage of buses this time.

But in case there are more passengers, the Suroy-Suroy buses previously lent by local government units in November will be on standby, he said.

A heavy volume of passengers is expected on Dec. 24 and 31. Jone Siegfred Sepe, head of the Provincial General Services Office (PGSO), said they are expecting fewer passengers next week.
