HOT HATCH

Seems like the subcompact hatchback category just got a little bit more classy with the arrival of the Volkswagen Polo Hatchback.
The sportier version of the Polo, Volkswagen’s only sub-million-priced vehicle and one of its most successful models, is expected to be a hit in the local market that seems to have a preference  for hatchbacks.

Unlike its sedan version, which Cebu Daily News tested mid last year, this variant of the Polo will come with a 1.6-liter, 4 cylinder multi-point injection petrol engine.
If the diesel-powered Polo sedan was more of a conservative type of vehicle, the hatchback is the sexier one that boasts of a more well-designed and well-engineered car that could be the perfect fit for young professionals and car lovers.
Priced at P950,000, the hatchback has a sportier look that  can give most of the hatchbacks in the market today a run for their money.
In fact, the Polo Hatchback may have an advantage over its rivals because of its quality and refinement. After all, it’s hard to beat German engineering. And it’s because of this that the Polo Hatchback is fun to drive.
The 1.6-liter  engine that produces 105 Ps of power and 153 NM of torque is very responsive and exciting to play with, especially as it is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with a tiptronic function.
And because it has a short wheelbase and doesn’t have a protruding trunk, the vehicle’s handling is very impressive, perfect for Cebu City’s challenging roads.

And the fun isn’t just on the outside.
Inside, the Polo Hatchback is fitted with more tech stuff compared to its humbler version. It has a multi-function leather steering wheel, high-quality fabric seats and 60:40 split-folding rear seats. It is also equipped with a RCD 320 audio system that has CD and MP3 playback, an Aux-in, an SD card slot, a USB slot and Bluetooth connectivity—that’s enough to make the yuppies really, really happy.
Volkswagen Philippines said the Polo Hatchback is targeted to be one of their volume sellers in the country. It isn’t going to be difficult to meet that goal, especially with the   Polo Hatchback’s innovative packaging.
