A 33-year-old truck helper was arrested on allegations that he mauled and grabbed the service shotgun of a security guard assigned to a shipping company in Samboan town, Sunday afternoon.

Police said the suspect Virgilio de Torres, a truck helper of a fish courier allegedly attacked a 44-year-old security guard identified as Danilo Valmoria Rafols at the wharf in barangay San Antonio and tried to snatch his firearm.

Another guard named Leonardo Omaña helped pacify the situation but de Torres hit him and Rafols with lumber.

Another porter Cerilo Miramon saw the scuffle and helped the two guards hold down the suspect and called the police.

Rafols and Omaña sustained injuries and bruises while Miramon sustained a bite mark from the suspect on his left arm.

De Torres, a native of San Antonio, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Norte was temporarily detained at the police precinct but was later released as the management of the shipping company refuse to file charges.

“Someone from them said that they will not file any charges and will instead help de Torres get home to Dapitan,” said PO1 Cesar Catubig, desk officer of Samboan Police

“He did not smell of liquor however we could not eliminate the possibility that he might be high in drugs,” Catubig said.
