SIX graduates of Cebu schools landed in the top 10 of the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) held last September.

Three of the four topnotchers in the elementary level came from the University of Cebu in Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM).

A graduate of Cebu Normal University (CNU) was also in the top 10 in the elementary level while two other graduates of CNU scored high in the secondary level.

Toni Rose Gutierrez Fabila of UCLM scored 86.00 to land in fourth place while fellow graduates Lester Lumongsud Ochea landed in sixth place with 85.60 percent and Ric Roland Castones Tordillo scored 85 percent in ninth place.

The 10th placer Lordiel Mugot Miasco of Cebu Normal University (CNU) scored an 84.80 percent rating.

For the secondary level, Anna Maria Gracia Tesiorna Ingcog of CNU got 88.20 percent to land in eighth place and Christopher Iway Cabañog, also of CNU, got 88.00 for ninth place.

The result was welcomed by UC president and owner Atty. Augusto Go.

“That means that the future of those students are assured. They will get good jobs and they will be very, very successful. That means that I will be giving awards for the three of them also,” Go said.

He said the UCLM topnotchers will get cash rewards but he isn’t sure of the amount.

Miasco said he was happy upon learning that he was included in the topnotchers’ list. “I did not expect to top, but I was hoping”, he said.

Miasco said he answered all the questions and he was confident about passing the board exams, though he was not sure about landing in the top 10.

Miasco is a resident of La Hacienda, Alicia, Bohol. He graduated cum laude last March from CNU.

He said it was his mother’s dream that he becomes a teacher since she works as a Grade 1 teacher in La Hacienda Elementary School in Alicia, Bohol.

He said he wanted to enroll in a civil engineering course, but he loved his mother and he was convinced that he will have a secured job as a teacher.

Miasco’s father Eliseo is a security guard in the nearby town of Candijay.

Miasco said he will continue working as an ESL teacher while finishing his masters degree.

Three years from now, Miasco said he will also try his luck as a public elementary school teacher.

Based on the result released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Board for Professional Teachers (BPT) last Monday afternoon, at least 21,461 passed in the elementary level out of 68,442 examinees or a passing rate of 31.36 percent.

Out of 81,463 examinees in the secondary level, only 34,010 have passed or a passing rate of 41.75 percent.

PRC added that out of the 21, 461 elementary teachers who passed, around 20,145 passers are first timers and 1,316 are repeaters.

In the secondary level, 29,443 are first timers and 4,567 are repeaters.
