THE Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) recently turned over to the 17 barangays of Compostela town the 20 completed subprojects under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS).

The Kalahi-CIDSS sub-projects include the following: flood control through riprapping in Barangay Buluang; concreting of roads in Barangays Dapdap, Lupa, Basak, Cambayog, Cabadiangan, Poblacion and Tamiao; construction of refuge centers in Barangays Tag-ube, Panangban, Bagalnga and Cogon; construction of school building in Barangay Tubigan; construction of day-care center in Barangay Canamucan; improvement of drainage system in Barangays Basak, Canamucan, Magay, Poblacion and Estaca; and repair of evacuation center in Barangay Mulao.

“More than the sub-projects, we are glad that we were able to empower communities through their active participation in local governance,” said DSWD Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre.

Macapobre added that through Kalahi-CIDSS the barangays were given access and control of key development decisions and resources.

“The participation and cooperation of the people is very crucial in the implementation of the various identified subprojects because they will be the ones to implement and maintain it eventually,” Macapobre said.

“Dako akong pasalamat nga niabot ang Kalahi-CIDSS diri sa among barangay og napaayo namo ang pinakalisud nga dalan diri (I’m truly grateful that Kalahi-CIDSS came here in our barangay and we were able to fix the roughest road here in our community),” said Lupa Barangay Captain Cecilia Sabas.

Before the implementation of the subprojects, the community volunteers were trained in procurement, finance and infrastructure. They were also trained in monitoring, evaluation and grievance redress system.
