DEFENDING champions Team Samsam and last year’s runners-up Abrenica will face off once again for the title after they hurdled their respective opponents in the semifinals of the 2016 Emil’s Cup basketball tournament on Tuesday night at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.
Team Samsam, a squad backed by Cebu First District Representative Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, leaned on their firepower to beat ASPA, 99-92.
Five players scored in double-figures led by former pro Reed Juntilla and athletic forward Ferdinand Lusdoc, who had 15 each. Jessie Collado, Eliud Poligrates and Hafer Mondragon had 12, 11 and 10, respectively to help the reigning champs get the win and a chance to repeat.
In the other semis pairing, Abrenica edged the SG-ARQ Builders, 99-97.
Eman Calo and Harold Cincoflores once again sparkled with 23 and 17 points, respectively, and helped Abrenica survive the 37-point explosion of SG’s Jercules Tangkay.
