Suico, Melligen blaze comeback trail

THEY terrorized their ranks in their prime and played with boxing superstardom with their palms.

But while success seemed inevitable then for Randy Suico and Mark Jason Melligen, the two power punchers suddenly disappeared from the spotlight for reasons they would rather keep to themselves.

Last week, Cebu boxing got an inspiring development. The two are coming back. And what a comeback they made!

Suico, nicknamed ‘Komong Bato’ who once challenged for a world crown, and Melligen, a two-time silver medalist in the SEA Games, pulverized separate opponents in the co-main event of ‘Bakbakan sa Kabangkalan’ in Tuburan.

Still rusty from almost four years outside the ring, the 35-year old Suico scored a fifth round knockout of Bohol’s Nelson Tinampay.

Melligen, who was once a sparring partner of Floyd Mayweather, was equally impressive as he stopped Consolacion’s Edison Serrano.

And bigger things are expected from the two after no less than Tuburan mayor Aljun Diamante took them under the latter’s Diamond Promotions.

Is Cebu ready for a new world boxing champion? Suico and Melligen would rather let their fists do the talking.

And we can only wait with bated breath.
