Streak ends for Sanman’s Metuda

RIMAR “Machine Gun” Metuda saw his unbeaten streak come to an end after he bowed to Mirzhan Zhaksylykov of Kazakhstan last Friday at the Traktor Sport Palace in Chelyabinsk, Russia.

Zhaksylykov wrested the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver super featherweight title via a unanimous decision win while dealing Metuda of the General Santos City-based Sanman Boxing Gym his first loss in 11 fights.

Zhaksylykov, who improved to 9-1-0 (win-loss-draw), was a last-minute replacement as Metuda was supposed to face the former’s stablemate Mark Urbanux, who backed out after sustaining an injury.

With the loss, it’s back to the drawing board for Metuda, said Jim Claude “JC” Manangquil, chief executive officer of Sanman Promotions.

“It was a good experience for him. Hopefully, he learned something and will come back stronger,” said Manangquil.

Zhaksylykov is a former PABA featherweight title-holder.

Metuda is the WBF Asia Pacific featherweight champion, a title he won via a fifth round technical knockout win against Jason Tinampay last September 26 at the Gaisano Mall
Atrium in General Santos.
