Couple ran over by truck in Mandaue City, wife in critical condition

A couple was rushed to the hospital after they were ran over by a truck at MC Briones Street in Barangay Bakilid, Mandaue City at past 3 p.m. Thursday.

Richard Ouano and his wife Nimfa, of Barangay Paknaan in Mandaue City, were injured after truck driver Gregorio Beduya failed to see them riding their motorcycle in front of his vehicle, said PO1 John Philip Muñoz of the Mandaue City police.

Muñoz said Beduya, 36, of Danao City, claimed he only knew that he ran them over when he felt the truck hit and bounced into something.

Muños said it took several minutes for passersby to pull out the 49-year-old Ouano’s leg from under the truck’s tire.

But it was Nimfa, who also had to be rescued from under the truck, who sustained more serious injuries than herhusband, said Muñoz.

The policeman said the Ouano couple was rushed to the nearest hospital in the city where Nimfa was reported to be in critical condition.

Beduya was now detained at the Casuntingan police precinct pending the filing of charges against him.
