Gullas Run to return Oct. 9

AFTER A three-year break, the Gullas Run returns on Oct. 9 at the Talisay City Hall in Talisay City.

The running event was last held in 2012 but was stopped after the City welcomed a new administration under former mayor Johnny V. delos Reyes.

It was revived after Eduardo Gullas regained the mayoral seat after last May’s national elections.

The Gullas Run started in 2009 and had four editions before it was stopped and replaced with another running dubbed the Talisay City Marathon in 2013.

In a press conference held yesterday at the Mayor’s conference room in Talisay City Hall, Mayor Gullas said that as a sportsman himself, he is obliged to provide the youth of Talisay City an activity to stay fit and healthy.

“Unfortunately, it was stopped. But now it’s back, and we hope it shall continue,” said Mayor Gullas. “It’s my love of sports. I was once a basketball coach. All of these taken together perhaps is the reason why we have Gullas Run.”

No foreign runners

The running event will be offering three distances: 3k, 5k and 10k. The Talisay City Runners Club will be handling the race.

TCRC President Alex Dalusung said they will not let foreign runners join the race to give local runners a chance to win the purse at stake.

They are expecting 500 to 800 runners. They are also inviting local and public schools to take part in the run, especially since the 3k category is also for participants 12 years and below. Registration fee is pegged at P50 for the 3k category as long as one brings a school ID at the registration centers. Registration fee for the 5k is P350 while the 10k is P400.

The registration areas are at the Talisay City Sports Commission office in Talisay City Hall and C and J Optical in Gaisano Grand Mall, Tabunok, Talisay City.
