A ROBBERY suspect was hospitalized after he was mauled by bystanders after he held up a jeepney passenger along the national highway of Barangay Colon, Naga City, southern Cebu last Thursday afternoon. Lester Abatayo, of Barangay Linao-Lipata, Minglanilla, was brought to the hospital after he sustained multiple injuries in the body.

Abatayo was pointed by one Regie Mae Aliganga, 19, of Barangay Pangdan, Naga City, and a fourth year aeronautics student, as the one who robbed her at gunpoint inside a passenger multicab.

The suspect took her bag containing cell phone worth P10,000, wristwatch worth P2,500, P80 cash, flash drive and school ID.
When Abatayo disembarked in Barangay Colon, Aliganga shouted for help, prompting the bystanders to chase the suspect and maul him when they got hold of him.

Senior Insp. Jose Ruvic Villarin, deputy chief of the Naga City Police Office, said the victim boarded the jeepney in Cebu City on her way home, while Abatayo boarded in Minglanilla and later declared a holdup upon reaching Barangay Colon.
