The police arrested a former head guard of a department store here who was accused of killing a young man who was mistaken as a shoplifter in 2014.

Mauricio Dublados Jr. was cornered on Friday  at  Barangay Bauk-Bauk, Balingoan, Misamis Oriental during an operation conducted by  Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7)  headed by Senior Inspector John Rey Corales.

Dublados was subject of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Wilfredo Navarro of  the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 21 in 2014 for the death of Alfie Ducayag.

Ducayag was arrested by the store’s security guards after he was allegedly spotted slipping a pair of sandals in a shopping bag and was intercepted as he stepped out of the store.

He was taken to the security office after he allegedly failed to produce a receipt for the sandals.

Minutes after his arrest, Ducayag was rushed to the hospital and died.

Probe by the National Bureau of Investigation showed that Ducayag was beaten up inside the security office.
