The Southwestern University-Phinma (SWU-Phinma) inaugurated its main building Wednesday morning in its bid to improve its medicine and health sciences programs.

Phinma Education president and chief executive officer Chito Salazar said P400 million was set aside for the building’s renovation which will house the university’s medical school.

“It will be the heart and soul of the campus,” he said, adding that the building will also be the site of administrative offices and the university library.

Salazar said SWU-Phinma will be pouring majority of its investments into improving its medical school facilities and enhancing the capabilities of its faculty members.

Part of the P400 million that has been set aside will be used for improvements, such as upgrading from 110 to 190 beds, of the Sacred Heart Hospital, which will be renamed to SWU Medical Center.

Construction is expected to begin this year and expected to finish by 2018.

The company official said they envision the Cebu-based university to be number one in terms of medical and health sciences programs.
