At least two alleged gunmen hired by a drug personality were killed in what police said was a shootout in Barangay Maghaway, Talisay City at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Joser Abacahan, 30, and his still unidentified companion were rushed to the hospital but failed to make it.

Abacahan’s elder brother Felix was rescued by his boss who was on board a pick up vehicle, said Senior Insp. Leo Logroño, deputy chief of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

Logroño said they went to the place to serve a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Gilbert Moises of the Regional Trial Court Branch 18 against the suspects who, based on their investigation, were killers hired by a drug personality whose identity they refused to divulge for now.

When the suspects noticed the raiding team, they reportedly fired shots at the operatives. PIB policemen fired back, killing two of their targets.

Logroño said they sought the assistance of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) as well as the Talisay City police who were more familiar with the location.

Recovered inside the suspects’ hideout were high-powered firearms and ammunitions. Inventory of the seized items was still ongoing as of 5 p.m.
