THE Department of Education enjoined all students in public and private elementary and secondary schools to recite a prayer for their teachers in celebration of the National Teachers Month, which culminated yesterday during the World Teachers’ Day.

The DepEd has issued Memorandum no. 139 urging all schools throughout the country to recite the A Prayer for Teachers (Panalangin Para sa mga Guro) as part of the celebration.

The prayer was recited at exactly 10:05 a.m. yesterday as part of the synchronized programs and activities mandated by the DepEd.

Dr. Victor Yntig, DepEd-7 administrative division chief, said this was the first time that their central office included a prayer as part of the Teachers’ Day celebration.

Given the many difficulties faced by the teachers today, Yntig said the prayer was timely especially with the recent implementation of the K–12 program.

“Let’s just put it this way. Their biggest role and their greatest challenge is teaching the students,” he said. “Daghan kaayong challenges mao nga nakit-an sad siguro sa atong top management nga mura’g effective sad nga ato sad silang tagaan sa atong pag-ampo,” Yntig said.

Yntig explained that this year is the first time that teachers are handling the first batch of grade 11 students.

“Actually, kaning K–12 is a big challenge for the teachers, especially sa mga teachers nga na-assign sa grade 11,” he said.

Yntig pointed out that as part of their intervention to address this problem, they have already conducted trainings for teachers, which were aimed to make them better equipped to handle and facilitate learning among their students.
