CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he plans to build a college somewhere near the Ayala Heights sometime in the near future.

“(The lot is located) somewhere near in Ayala Heights. (In barangays) Busay, Sirao Malubog area. (The donor said,) ‘I will donate the land.’ I said, ‘Salamat (Thank you).’ I really want to put a college in the mountain barangay,” he added.

Osmeña declined to name the donor pending negotiations.

He said it’s better for the city to build a school in the mountains since it’s costly and difficult for children to travel to and from their homes in the mountains.

“If the city will put up a college, put it in the mountain because there’s no college there. Why would the city put up a college beside universities, what for? Usik na sa kwarta (It’s just a waste of money),” Osmeña said.

Students living in the mountain barangays spend at least P50 for a trip to the city proper where the schools are located.

The mayor said the lot where the proposed school will be built is not along the highway but is still accessible to most vehicles.

“He (donor) wants to do it. I told him (to) also imagine if you put a call center there, mosaka gyod ang presyo sa yuta (the price of the lot will increase). You’ll have a whole community there,” Osmeña said.
