Late conclusion of matches and an alleged walkout marred last Saturday’s Play It Forward 3 Badminton Tournament of the Primary Group of Builders Badminton Club at Metrosports Lahug.

The walkout reportedly happened as the matches started to move towards the finals when the officiating team commissioned by the organizers suddenly left, bringing with them most of the umpires and line judges.

Organizers were left to troubleshoot the disarray caused by the walk out. Fortunately, the leveling body headed by Metrosports Lahug’s Mitch Fernandez was able to put things back on track until the last match concluded close to midnight.

Meanwhile, James Ryan Villarante and Lyrden Laborte claimed the Men’s Doubles Level C/D title after almost losing their twice-to-beat advantage over brothers Archangelo and Paul Ouano.

Villarante and Laborte captured the first set, 21-19 but the Ouano siblings rallied to win the second and third sets, 21-14, 21-16 to forge a rubbermatch.

Sensing that the siblings have spread out their endurance thin in the last two sets, Villarante and Laborte scored an easy kill in the second round, winning in straight sets, 21-13 and 21-15.

In Men’s Doubles Level E, Roger Sameon and Gerard Cosicol beat Edward Lucas and John Abelo while the distaff title went to Maureen Ouano and Jennifer Alterado who beat
Mitch Fernandez and Grace Zafra.
