A 35-year-old wife died after she was repeatedly stabbed by her husband around 7 p.m. last Friday in Barangay Consolacion, Dalaguete town, southern Cebu.
Maria Batoctoy sustained multiple wounds in the body after being stabbed by her husband Antonio, 35.
PO1 Ariel Cordova of the Dalaguete Police Station said the victim, along with their five children, were already sleeping while Antonio was still watching TV. Moments later, Antonio went to the room of Maria and repeatedly stabbed her. Antonio then set their house on fire prompting the children to run outside.
The couple’s neighbor PO3 Maximo Belciña of Dalaguete police station rushed inside the burning house to arrest Antonio but the latter attacked him with a knife prompting him to shoot Antonio in the shoulder to neutralize him.
Antonio is now recuperating at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City. Cordova said Antonio was suffering from nervous breakdown for using illegal drugs. /Correspondent Rene F. Alima
