THE UNIVERSITY of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars captured the title in the Mayor Nice Apura Inter Collegiate Basketball Tournament 2016 after they drubbed the much-improved University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 95-87, in the finals on Monday night in Carcar City.

Cesafi Mythical Five guard Jaybie Mantilla led the way for the Jaguars with 26 points and was eventually named tournament MVP.

He got plenty of help from high-scoring forward RJ Dinolan, who added 20.

The win netted USJ-R the champion’s cash prize of P50,000 while USPF ended up with P30,000.

USPF’s new recruit Richly Managor led the Panthers with 29 points while Clyde Avancena added 15.

Meanwhile, Cesafi champions University of the Visayas took third place honors after beating the Cebu Institute of Technology-University, 101-91. UV got P20,000 while CIT-U brought home P10,000.
