200 evacuated in Balamban

By: Chito O. Aragon January 21,2014 - 11:32 AM

Over 200 people were forced to leave their homes in the mountain barangay of Gaas, Balamban Sunday afternoon after a big crack developed on a hill after days of rain.

Chief Insp. Richard Oliver, Balamban police chief, said the residents were evacuated to the barangay hall and the Gaas National High School.

A landslide occurred past 10:00 p.m. near the rest house of Provincial Board Member Alex Binghay but the road was immediately cleaned up by the municipal government.

All mountain barangays in Balamban are landslide-prone, said Oliver, but police and the local government unit are assessing if there is a need for other residents to evacuate, depending on the weather.
