THE 1ST Samsam Gullas Cup kicks off in grand fashion today with a triple-header at the Enan Chiong Activity Center in Naga City.
The hostilities begin at 6 p.m. but not before a brief opening ceremony that will be headed by Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, Cebu’s First District representative.
Gullas, also the team manager of the most successful basketball program here in the south, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, said that the league aims to unite the different cities and municipalities of the First District of Cebu through the camaraderie of basketball competition. The tournament will pit the best players aged 20 and under from Talisay City all the way to Sibonga.
The champion squad will be given a whopping cash prize of P80,000 while the runner-up goes home with P40,000. The third and fourth placers will be gifted with P20,000 and P10,000, respectively while the fifth and sixth place winners will get P5,000 each.
The triple-header will be kicked off by a game between San Fernando and Carcar while Talisay and Sibonga will clash in the second game. The main game will feature Naga against Minglanilla.
