Lawyer Ingemar Macarine will embark on another treacherous journey today in support of the world’s oceans as he attempts to swim the Canigao Channel from Bohol to Maasin City, in southern Leyte.

Known as the Pinoy Aquaman, Macarine will swim a total distance of 17 kilometers starting from Lapinig Island, in the municipality of Carlos P. Garcia, Bohol to Maasin City.

Although Macarine had crossed much longer distances in the past, today’s swim remains a big challenge with big waves expected due to the strong northwest winds.

“The weather forecast showed that it’s going to be windy at 18kph. The wind will be strong and the waves will be big. We might cancel the swim if the weather won’t cooperate,” said Macarine.

He targets to finish the swim in five to six hours depending on today’s weather condition. The swim is organized by the Municipality of Ubay through Mayor Constantino Reyes to promote local tourism and for cleaner seas.

If the 39-year old Macarine completes this one, it will be his 24th open water swim. He was recently nominated as the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) Man of the Year 2016.

His most previous swim was crossing a 5.7k distance between Hilutungan Channel in Mactan Island to Olanggo Island last September.
