Fire hits a storage facility of Marca Leon Cooking Oil at Pier 4 in Cebu City damaging at least P10 million in property.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Angelo Abellana said Cebu City Fire Department received the fire alarm at 3:47 a.m.

It took firefighters close to five hours to put out the fire because the facility contained different types of cooking products and cooking oils produced by Marca Leon, which couldn’t be easily extinguished using water.

Abellana said firefighters used chemicals to put out the fire which was declared fire out at 8:30 a.m.

Investigator SFO2 Dionisio Regasa said Ponciano Milana, the security guard who was on duty when the fire broke out, heard a cracking sound from the interior portion of the warehouse.

“When Milana took a peak from the entrance to check what it was, he saw that the fire had already started,” said Regasa.

Regasa said they are still investigating the cause of the fire. No one was reported hurt in the incident.
