CEBU Provincial Board (PB) Member Julian ‘Teban’ Daan is still confined in a hospital after undergoing a heart bypass last month.

The 68-year-old Daan, an icon of Cebuano comedy, is being closely monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Chong Hua Hospital after surgery last Dec. 20, according to his staff member, Christian La Rosa.

“Di pa siya kalakaw hangtud karon pero maka-storya na man siya,” said Rosa about the first district board member’s status.
(Until now he still cannot walk but he can already talk).

Daan’s wife, Yolanda, who serves as his chief of staff in the legislative office is also on leave to take care of her husband.
Last Dec. 17, Daan complained to his wife that he had difficulty breathing and was experiencing tightness in his chest.

The board member was immediately confined at the hospital on the same day and after three days, was operated on to repair his heart’s clogged arteries.

“Their family celebrated Christmas, New Year and most recently, Sinulog in the hospital,” said La Rosa.

A One Cebu stalwart of former governor Gwen Garcia, Daan was the top vote-getter among PB members with 152,611 votes in the May election. He led by more than 83,000 votes against the next winning candidate in Cebu’s first district, Raul Alcoseba.

He first served as barangay councilor of Tabunok, Talisay City in 1982 then became a city councilor in 1987 before serving as Cebu 1st district’s board member in 1998, 2001, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

He also hosts the morning radio show ‘Kung Ako Ang Pasultihon’ which airs at dyHP-RMN Cebu 612. Daan rose to fame as Esteban Escudero in the Cebuano radio and television franchise ‘Esteban Escudero’ ug ‘Ang Manok ni San Pedro.’
