Mandaue drug surrenderers get free groceries
ASIDE from livelihood, why not entice drug suspects to surrender with free groceries?
The Mandaue City Police Office recorded 50 drug surrenderers in the past three weeks since they launched their “Grocery for Surrenderers.”
Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas said they told previous surrenderers to either tell their family and friends who were involved in illegal drugs to surrender or just give them their names in exchange for grocery items.
“We preferred giving grocery items than cash, or they might be tempted to buy shabu. In this way, we can help the surrenderers,” Alanas said.
Alanas said they would give P100 worth of grocery items for every drug suspect they turn in to the police.
They will then visit the drug suspect’s house and convince him or her to surrender.
Alanas said they used the P10,000 cash reward given to them by headquarters to their police operations to fund this initiative.
They also employ “Texthang” in which they text the drug suspects and convince them to surrender.
Alanas said they will also launch their own mascot named “SPO1 Mandaue” who will help them in their antidrug awareness campaign including skits performed in schools.
