Cuizon to handle second LTFRB office in Visayas
Aside from handling his regular duties, regional director Ahmed Cuizon of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7) will also head the agency’s Eastern Visayas office.
Cuizon will report to the LTFRB-8 office in Tacloban City starting next week after a special order signed by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade last December 1 designated him as its acting director.
“LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra told me to do a system check in LTFRB-8, make recommendations to address corruption and improve the delivery of services there,” Cuizon said.
The Ombudsman ordered the three-month suspension of LTFRB-8 regional director Arthur Saippudin last September due to issuing franchises despite an existing moratorium on it.
Cuizon still has to assess the Eastern Visayas office and do consultations with the stakeholders before implementing specific reforms.
“It’s a big challenge considering the destruction brought by Yolanda in Tacloban City and the rest of Eastern Visayas. The transportation industry was also greatly affected by the devastation,” Cuizon said.
But Cuizon clarified that he is still the LTFRB director for Central Visayas, which means he handles two regions at present.
“As much as possible, we don’t want the processes in Cebu and the rest of Region 7 to be adversely affected by our dual assignment,” Cuizon said.
He will be delegating many responsibilities to his subordinates at the same time balance their time.
“I bank on the fact that we have very competent people who are running our office here. That they require minimum supervision compared to Tacloban,” Cuizon said.
