Liloan Vice Mayor Duke Frasco was sworn in as one of the new commissioners of the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) on Wednesday.

Frasco was nominated by President Rodrigo Duterte to be part of the CPA which governs all port operations in Cebu.

“I am grateful and humbled to accept this appointment from the President with the full support of my family, our councilors, barangay captains, and constituents in Liloan,” said Frasco in a press release.

In light of the prohibition on holding two concurrent government positions, Frasco will be resigning as vice mayor of the municipality and will be replaced by number one councilor and former Vice Mayor Thelma Jordan.

To ensure a smooth transition, Frasco said his resignation will be effective by the end of January 2017.

He said he is confident that Liloan will continue to progress under the able management of his wife, current Liloan Mayor Christina Garcia Frasco.

Frasco is optimistic that his experience as mayor will bring effective and innovative ideas to the CPA.

“Traffic in Metro Cebu has worsened over the years. I believe we can look to one of our most vast resources, our seas, for relief. Providing comfortable ferry boats and terminals in various areas in Metro Cebu to transport passengers could very well solve our traffic problem.”

Frasco also expressed support for the proposal of new CPA General Manager Angelo Verdan for the CPA board to review plans for the New Cebu International Container Port (NCICP) project slated to be in Consolacion and Liloan.

He said he looks forward to another challenge in his almost decade-long career in public service.

At the age of 26, Frasco was elected mayor of Liloan, and held the post for nine years.

Under his administration, Frasco transformed the third-class municipality into a first-class town, which was adjudged as one of the top performing towns in Cebu. Frasco was also chosen as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of the Philippines for public administration.
