ROGELIO Enriquez Jr. and Jun Kidlat emerged victorious in last Sunday’s Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) 2016 Grand Finals held at the newly opened Knight Attack Chess Café at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
Enriquez, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) chess team head coach, topped Group A while Kidlat emerged the best in Group B of the whole day competition that featured some of Cepca’s best wood pushers.
Enriquez beat Peterson Sia in the semifinals and last year’s Group A champion Jimmy Ty in the finals to take the Group A title. Ty finished second while Sia settled for third.
In Group B, Kidlat defeated Cepca president Jerry Maratas in the semifinals and then San Nicolas Night High School principal Edwin Cablao in the championship round. Cablao and Maratas were the runners up.
Jave Peteros topped the tournament for the non-qualifying Cepca members after finishing with 4.5 points. Manny Manzanares and Queenie Cablao placed second and third, respectively.
Former Cebu City mayor and Cepca honorary member Mike Rama graced the tournament and the opening of the new chess café.
The awarding ceremonies and the group’s Christmas party was held at the White Gold House.
