Lapu traffic enforcer shot dead

CEBU CITY–A traffic enforcer was shot dead by one of the two men on board a motorcycle in Barangay Basak in Lapu-Lapu City on Mactan Island, Cebu around 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Raquel Bensi, 40 and a member of the Lapu-Lapu City’s Traffic Management System (CTMS), was manning the busy traffic along Maximo Patalinjug Avenue when he was shot by the gunmen wearing full face helmets.

Bensi, a resident of Sitio Sudtonggan, Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, died on the spot.

According to witnesses, the assailants stopped in front of Bensi and shot him several times before speeding off towards Barangay Marigondon.

Police found two empty shells believed to be of .45 caliber pistol.

According CTMS Office desk officer Monchito Raymundo, Bensi had been a traffic enforcer for 15 years. But he lately caught the ire of drivers since he had been apprehending unregistered tricycle drivers along Cebu Light Industrial Park in Barangay Basak and had the tricycles impounded.

The police were conducting follow up operations to arrest the perpetrators.
