THE formal opening is on Sunday yet, but some athletes will get to work early as the gymnastics competition of this year’s Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association (Cviraa) Regional Meet starts today in the City of Naga, south Cebu.

The gymnastics event will be held at the Enan Chiong Activity Center in Barangay Poblacion.

This year’s Cviraa, being hosted by Naga for the second straight year, will have the Cebu City Niños gunning for their 25th title. The week-long, multi-sporting event serves as the selection process in forming a team that will represent Central Visayas in the annual Palarong Pambansa, set this April in Antique province.

According to delegation head Zenaida Gocotano, the Niños had gone through a rigid training to come up with another solid run.

“Our training has been nonstop since the Cebu City Olympics ended. Part of their training was also when they were sent to represent Cebu City to the Batang Pinoy National Championships in Tagum,” Gocotano said.

The Niños also underwent a much-needed strength and conditioning sessions last January under Dr. Rhoel Dejano and Dr. Ryan Garcia.
