Mandaue sets 6-month rezoning moratorium

THE Mandaue City Council has approved the six-month moratorium on the implementation of the Ordinance No. 14-2016-1119 or the City’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) during its 28th regular council session yesterday.

This after Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing had requested the council to declare the move through a resolution.

The moratorium covers all business entities or establishments operating truck services, logistics and container yards that are located on Barangays Tipolo and Subangdaku, which are classified as Mandaue City’s Special Economic Administrative Zone as stated in the CLUP.

Businesses whose actual use or operation do not conform to the zoning and classification standards specified in the CLUP are also covered by the moratorium.

“The present situation requires further coordination and consultation with these business entities considering they will be directly affected by the land use reclassification or rezoning. Furthermore, said moratorium period will give more time for these concerned businesses to prepare their exit plans and transfer to their proper ‘zones’ and for the City to evaluate and make recommendation for the classification of these properties,” Quisumbing said in a letter dated February 10 addressed to the City Council through Mandaue City Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna.

The moratorium took effect yesterday, immediately after it was approved by the city council.
