A MOTORCYCLE rider died while his backrider was seriously injured after his bike collided with a Ceres bus on Sunday afternoon in Barangay Liloan, Santander, the southernmost town of Cebu.

Ivan Viloria Ogoc, 20, of Consolacion town, northern Cebu who worked as a call center agent, and his backrider, Gwynne Guylan, 20, of Pelaez Street, Cebu City, who was also his girlfriend and company supervisor, were brought to Oslob District Hospital for treatment.

Ogoc later died in the hospital at 6 p.m. due to severe head and body injuries. Guylan was transferred to a hospital in Cebu City for further treatment.

According to PO1 Arturo Ricahuerta of Santander Police Station, the victims came from Samboan town and were heading to a beach resort in Santander when they pulled over on the right shoulder of the road in Barangay Liloan to give way to a Sunrays bus that overtook them.

But as they returned to their lane, Ogoc’s motorcycle zigzagged and bumped into the approaching Ceres bus coming from Cebu City.

The driver of Ceres bus with plate number GXW 193, Welmard Drillon, 30, of Barangay Looc, Santander, surrendered to Santander Police Station.

Last Sunday’s vehicular accident was the second that occurred in the municipality in a span of one week.

Last February 20, two persons died after an Isuzu D-Max pickup vehicle and a Suzuki mini-van collided head-on in Sitio Sanayon, Barangay Pasil at around 6 a.m.

Ernesto Creseliano Jugo, 45, the driver of Suzuki mini-van, and his front seat passenger Jeofilo Rubio, both from Barangay Looc, Santander, died after being pinned inside the vehicle.

Ernesto Mendez, municipal engineer of Santander and the driver of Isuzu D-Max pick-up (JXV 790), only sustained minor injury.

Mendez reportedly collided with the mini-van after overtaking a motorcycle on a curved portion of the highway in Sanayon. /Correspondent Rene F. Alima
