ATHLETES from the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) are geared up for their stint in the upcoming Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) National Meet, which will open next Sunday in Iba, Zambales.

USJ-R will be sending 12 volleyball players and eight karatekas to represent Region 7 in the prestigious meet for private schools. Region 7’s bet for the Mutya ng Prisaa Pageant, Gazini Chistiana Ganados, is also from USJ-R.

The USJ-R delegation will leave on Tuesday.

“These teams have prepared for this even, doubling their efforts and determined to bring home the bacon,” USJ-R assistant sports moderator Ernest Vergara said.

Region 7 is eyeing to defend its overall title in the meet. The team collected 128 gold medals, 81 silvers, and 55 bronzes to win last year’s crown in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

“We are grateful to all the Josenian students and alumni for their continued support and to all the priest administrators, especially to the University president Rev. Fr. Cristopher C. Maspara, OAR,” Vergara added.

The USJ-R karatedo team will be headed by sensei Manuel Aloba and assistant coach Criel Labrada while the Spiking Jagaurs will be led by Hall of Famer coach Grace Antigua and assistant coach Heintjie Tomales. Ganados will be guided by her handler/coach Al Radomes.
