A SCRAP metal dealer died on the spot while his wife sustained multiple injuries after a motorcycle they rode in collided with a minibus in Carmen town, northern Cebu yesterday morning.

Adoly Balayo and his wife Violeta, both in their 50s, rode a motorcycle with a side car locally called “tora-tora” when they collided with the minibus driven by a certain Edito Areval.

PO2 Ever Villacarlos, Carmen police precinct investigator, said Balayo was headed to Danao City while the minibus was headed to the North Bus Terminal when the collision occurred at the central highway in Carmen town.

When Balayo was on the other lane, the minibus was already approaching the curve.

Areval said he was unable to step on the brakes and the couple’s motorcycle crashed into the bus.

Areval is now detained at the Carmen police precinct.

“The Balayo family is not keen on filing a case against Areval. They are open to an amicable settlement,” Villacarlos said.
