Local and foreign cyclists as well as triathletes will once again test their physical limits when they strut their wares in the MotorAce Kawasaki Giro D’ Luca, a three-day cycling event that will be held at the Bellevue Hotels and Resorts on Panglao Island, Bohol on May 26-28.
Now on its fifth year, the non-competitive event has drew 400 participants, who will try to conquer a 500-kilometer ride around Bohol.
The event was also held in Bohol last year.
“Bohol is the nearest place to Cebu. It’s a perfect place for long rides, and we’re in love with its nature, its people and its view,” said Gianluca Guidicelli in a press briefing yesterday at Ssangyong Cebu along Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City.
Giro D’ Luca has evolved as one of the most prominent cycling events since it started as a fun ride to mark Guidicelli’s birthday.
Race director Jung Cases said that aside from riders from Cebu, Digos, Iligan, Butuan, Panabo City, Siargao, Iloilo, Agusan, Manila and Pampanga, this year’s event will also feature participants from Hongkong, Mexico, Australia, United States and Malaysia.
“This is not a competition. It’s about having fun. Riders can stop anytime they want and take some photos,” said Jonel Borromeo, president of Motor Ace Philippines, the event’s major corporate backer.
Safety first
Organizers assured that measures have already been taken to ensure the safety of the participants.
“We have communicated with the local government units that will be part of the route. We also coordinated with Governor Edgar Chatto and the Provincial Police of Bohol. The course is all safe,” said Borromeo.
