LIVING up to its lofty billing, Mandaue City completed an elimination round sweep in the North Division Bracket 1 when it buried Compostela, 104-80, last Saturday night in the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup 21-Under Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Consolacion Sports Complex.
Skipper Jancork Cabahug erupted for 32 points, 15 of them he scored in the second quarter that set the tone for the 24-point rout as Mandaue clinched the number one seeding in the division after finishing the initial phase with a clean 5-0 (win-loss) card.
Consolacion took the second quarterfinal seat in the division after blasting Tudela, 123-58, while Liloan ended its campaign with a 90-77 over Pilar.
Aside from Mandaue and Consolacion, Bogo City and Bantayan have already earned quarterfinal slots in the North Division Bracket 3.
Final elimination round games in the North Division Bracket 3 were to be played last night at the Balamban Sports Complex.
In the South Division Bracket 3, Toledo City dispatched Badian, 87-68, while Dumanjug dumped Algeria at the Barba Sports Complex in Toledo.
The win allowed Dumanjug to forge a three-way tie at second place with Badian and Barili.
Barili went on to earn the final quarterfinal slot in the division owing to its superior tie-break quotient at 1.041. Dumanjug had 1.012 and Badian had 0.946.
Toledo and Barili are the quarterfinalists in the South Division 3, Talisay City Aqua Stars and Minglanilla for South Division 1, and Dalaguete and Samboan for South Division 2.
