MANDAUE City and the Consolacion Sarok inched closer to forging a title showdown in the North Division after they hacked out separate wins last Monday night in the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Don Celestino Martinez Sports Complex in Bogo City.
Mandaue kept its immaculate slate intact after humbling host squad Bogo, 63-56, while Consolacion pulled off a dominating 107-88 triumph over the Bantayan Seamasters.
Mandaue and Consolacion both improved to 3-0 (win-loss). Overall, Mandaue is yet to taste a single loss in the tournament after a five-game sweep in the elimination round.
Bogo took a 32-30 lead at the turn but Christopher Isabelo converted two of Mandaue’s four trifectas in the third period that helped his team steal the lead, 49-48, with one quarter to play.
Froilan Mangubat and Jancork Cabahug then teamed up in sparking Mandaue’s strong endgame run, while Bogo sputtered and scored just eight points in the final quarter.
Cabahug topped Mandaue with 20 points, while Isabelo chipped in 11.
Paul Amistoso fired 16 points and Justine Valenzuela added 10 for Bogo, which fell to 1-2.
Consolacion, on the other hand, was led by the 25 points of Emmanuel Villamor. JC Escalona pitched in 16, Cyril Abellana donated 14, while Keith Padayogdog had 10.
Tuburan, meanwhile, chalked up its first win in the quarterfinals via a 94-84 spanking of Balamban.
Mike Parilla fired 30 to power Tuburan, while Miguelito Jusay, Joycelee Oropiano and Alson Sevilla added 19, 15 and 10, respectively.
